Are eco games really fun?
In today’s society, there has been an increase of concern surrounding two things, the effect of video games on young minds and environmental issues such as global warming. So why not tackle two birds with one stone and create a mobile game that anyone can play – not just kids – that teaches us about the eco issues present today, and how to act on them. That’s what our team at Virtue Gaming asked themselves, and is what has led to the creation of the Eco-aire, BEYOND BLUE, and other indie eco games.
Can mobile games teach us about greener issues AND be fun?
With popular games such as FIFA, Call of Duty, and Halo currently flooding the market, is there space for a game that is educational? At first, educational games may not seem appealing as games are a fun way to help us relax, and so shouldn’t be packed full of information that we have to spend time reading and understanding. However, with games such as Eco-aire, BEYOND BLUE and other indie eco games, the question has to be asked as to whether mobile games can both be exciting and informative.
Eco-aire was developed to show the scale of difference one can make concerning eco issues such as pollution, etc. It starts with campaigns formulated in a London office and progresses to moving all around the world and completing different eco-projects. Through this, we get a fun exploration of the world, balanced out with information on how we can tackle greener issues.
How does Eco-aire act as a game?
You may ask how can Eco-aire, a game about eco issues can be fun? We take classic elements such as office building and give it a sense of importance and urgency. Building offices and help make the world better will ensure the "World Health Meter" is kept gree. You can manage and send out teams of people to help Nobel causes, building your skills as a leader. Plus, there is also a series of mini-games that can be played whilst you’re waiting for the bus, etc, which can mean that even in your downtime you’re helping to raise donations for a range of charities.
